Bible Thinking Woman

Legacy of Faith-Part 1

Legacy of Faith

On May 6, 2015 Time magazine featured a letter written by Tina Knowles to her children Beyonce and Solange Knowles. Tina had many things to say about her daughter Beyonce; that she was generous, compassionate, kind, caring, and humble. My initial thought was wow, Beyonce is really a nice person behind closed doors and seemingly is a good woman. But, instantly I felt a sense of sadness and sorrow for her for a couple of reasons. First, nowhere in Tina’s admiration of Beyonce, did she mention anything about Beyonce being a great woman of God, that she was a woman of faith who loved the Lord with all her heart, soul and mind, who lived to please Him, who was a godly woman after God’s own heart. Second, although Tina describes Beyonce as having a “good” character, Tina (and possibly Beyonce) may not understand that being a “good” person will not give one access to Heaven. That no amount of “good” works on this earth will ever be enough to please God. No amount of generosity, no amount of kindness…we can’t earn our way into Heaven. The Bible is clear, Jesus says He is the only way to Heaven (John 14:6), and that our salvation is a grace gift from God, not by our works (Ephesians 2:8-9).

As Christian women, we must teach our children and upcoming generations about the Lord and His Word. Teaching them that life is not about being a “good” person (although doing good to others is important), but rather our purpose for living is to glorify God (Isaiah 43:7), help build His Kingdom (Matthew 6:33, John 17:4) and be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29). That we are to live a self-sacrificing life for Jesus (Matthew 16:24) and that we are not to love this world or the things in it (1 John 2:15-17). We have a responsibility of raising our children and generations to come in the fear of the Lord, training them up in godliness and pointing them to Jesus Christ. Teaching them to love the Lord with all their hearts, soul and mind (Matthew 22:37).

How tragic it would be to have our children/youth dressed in the best clothes, to get straight A’s, to be successful, famous and rich on earth….yet they lose their soul, never entering into Heaven, forever separated from God in eternal damnation.

Let’s give the upcoming generation a valuable treasure that will never be destroyed or be lost, but rather a treasure that will spill over into eternity…the Word of God. “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.” Mathew 24:35 NASB

Treasuring HIM,
Kesha
